TLOD Partners with AARP to Host Caregivers Forun
Top Ladies of Distinction, Inc. is in partnership with AARP to promote caregiving awareness among the communities they serve. All National and Area Conferences have provided panels, forums, workshops, etc. around the financial, physical and legal aspects of caregiving. At TLOD’s recent National Convention, AARP sponsored a "We Care" Forum. The Moderator of the Forum was author, comedienne, and actress of “Living Single” fame, Kim Coles. In addition to moderating the event, Kim took pictures with Top Teens of America and autographed copies of her latest book “Open Your G.I.F.T.S.: 22 Lessons on Finding and Embracing Your Personal Power.”
TLOD Welcomes Honorary Members
Top Ladies of Distinction, Inc. inducted two Honorary Members at their National Convention in St. Louis, Missouri in June, 2017: Dr. Glenda Baskin Glover, Ph.D, JD, CPA, President of Tennessee State University and International Vice President of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc.; and Dr. Pernessa C. Seele, immunologist and interfaith public health activist, who is the CEO and Founder of the Balm in Gilead, Inc. and Healthy Churches 20/20.
TLOD receives UNCF Legacy Award
National President, Lady Drema Lee Woldman, accepted the Legacy Award on behalf of Top Ladies of Distinction, Inc. at the UNCF Leadership Conference in Atlanta, GA. TLOD has partnered with UNCF for over 25 years helping to raise money for scholarships and awareness for UNCF/HBCU colleges and universities. Each chapter is responsible for raising money and making donations to UNCF. In addition, the National body makes a donation to UNCF at their annual convention. Over $100,000.00 was raised this year alone and an additional $10,000.00 was presented at the recent National Convention. Accepting on UNCF's behalf was Mr. Maurice E. Jenkins, Jr., Executive Vice President/Chief Development Officer.
Top Teens of America Donates and Packs over 1,000 Backpacks
As their National Service Project and through their TTA Blessings in a Backpack Initiative, Top Teens of America packed over 1,000 backpacks filled with healthy food and donated them to six different service providers in the St. Louis Community. To date, Top Teens of America has provided over 5,000 backpacks to school children, homeless and abused women’s shelters across the six Areas of Top Ladies of Distinction, Inc.
Top Teen Set to Attend the Ailey School
Top Ladies of Distinction, Inc. and the Anthony J. Hall Endowment Fund presented Teen Cameron Edwards of the Missouri City Chapter with a scholarship at the recent National Convention. Teen Cameron, of Houston, Texas, is the 2017 NAACP ACT-SO double gold medalist in modern and contemporary dance and the 2017 Top Teens of America Area One performing arts winner. Cameron is a 2017 graduate of the High School for the Performing and Visual Arts where he majored in dance. He will be enrolled in the Certificate Program at the Ailey School in New York City this Fall. The Certificate Program is a three-year program for advanced/beginner to intermediate level students ages 17-23 who have completed their secondary school requirements. This program takes a conservatory approach to dance training, combining technique, dance academics, creative studies, and repertory and performance. Congrats to Teen Cameron!
TLOD Hosts Open House for New Headquarters
Top Ladies of Distinction recently celebrated the opening of its new national headquarters in the historic Third Ward in Houston, Texas. Members traveled from across the country to be a part of this historic occasion. The new building houses TLOD's administrative offices and membership services. It is equipped with a full service kitchen and multiple meeting spaces including an executive meeting room and a large multipurpose meeting room.
